There is a small silver Decepticon insignia on his side. I’m guessing he was actually intended to be an undercover Federal vehicle.Īs a sinister looking all black Suburban, this alt mode is pretty much perfect for a Decepticon, although if you’re into exciting paint apps you’ll be disappointed because you pretty much just get black on black. Oddly enough the package suggests that Crankcase is a police car, and while he does have lightbars on the roof, there aren’t any other indications that he’s a police vehicle. Nothing new here, but it looks pretty good. The back panel of the card has his Tech Specs and his bio blurb. He’s mounted in his Suburban mode with his MechTech weapon beside him. He was still plenty cool though, and I really liked how the scene had three identical Suburbans transform into three different Decepticons.Ĭrankcase comes packaged on a standard Deluxe Class card with the cool Dark of the Moon space deco. I was hoping for better things from him in the movie, but as it turned out he was mainly a stand in for Bonecrusher in what was largely just a rehash of the highway battle scene from the ’07 movie. He’s a Decepticon Chevy Suburban, which is just plain awesome. It’s no secret I love me some Decepticon cars, so it should be pretty obvious that I was excited about getting Crankcase. I’ll try to mix it up a bit this week before getting back to the insane amount of Transformers I’ve yet to look at. And that kills off the first Trifecta of DotM Deluxe figures. I’m glad I have him in my collection and even though he’s got issues, but you could do worse. It’s not terrible, and you can get some nice poses out of him on the shelf, but the kibble hanging off his shoulders feels like a half-assed design and the more I look at his head sculpt the more I hate it. I love his vehicle mode, but I’m kind of iffy on his robot mode. In the end, I’m a little torn on this guy. Either way, the weapon can peg onto the hood of the car or it can be pegged onto his arms when he’s in robot mode. They’re a cool idea, and I like the fact that they’re interchangeable, but I don’t think Hasbro has really captured the full potential of the gimmick. Honestly, I had high hopes for these MechTech weapons and on the whole, they just aren’t really jiving with me. Topspin’s MechTech weapon is a gun that converts into a capture claw.
